GOP-Led House Committee Finds Clintons in Contempt of Congress

Bill Clinton Found in Contempt of Congress
On Jan. 21, 2026, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform voted, 34-10, to hold former President Bill Clinton in contempt of Congress over his refusal to be deposed in the committee’s probe of Jeffrey Epstein’s global sex-trafficking ring. Clinton later agreed to appear before the committee, and the charge was dropped before the full House could take it up. Clinton testified Feb. 27 in a hearing conducted behind closed doors in his hometown of Chappaqua, N.Y. The committee denied the Clintons’ request to open the hearings to the public.
Following this vote, Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said the committee “sent a clear message: no one is above the law, and justice must be applied equally — regardless of position, pedigree or prestige.”
But in a Jan. 12 letter to the committee, attorneys for Bill and Hillary Clinton called subpoenas “nothing more than a ploy to attempt to embarrass political rivals, as President Trump has directed.”
In a public statement issued before he testified, Clinton said he and Epstein became friends during numerous trips he accepted on Epstein’s private jets to administer Clinton Foundation humanitarian programs in Africa. He said he was unaware of Epstein’s criminal activity and had he known, “I would have turned him in myself.”

Clinton later agreed to appear before the committee, and the charge was dropped before the full House could take it up. She testified Feb. 26 in a hearing conducted behind closed doors in her hometown of Chappaqua, N.Y. The committee denied the Clintons’ request to open the hearings to the public.
In a statement to the committee, Clinton said “I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island, homes or offices” and “had no idea” about criminal activities by Jeffrey Epstein and his girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell.
